We are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to lead the assessment, planning and delivery of complex projects with significant environmental considerations. This role will provide expert advice across the project lifecycle, from early feasibility and approvals strategy through to construction, monitoring and post-project evaluation. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, regulators, consultants and community representatives to ensure environmental risks are identified, managed and communicated effectively.
Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing environmental impact assessments, planning reports, management plans and approval documentation; coordinating environmental investigations and technical studies; interpreting relevant environmental legislation, policies and planning instruments; and supporting the development of practical mitigation and offset strategies. You will manage project scopes, budgets, schedules and external consultants, while providing clear recommendations to senior stakeholders. The role will also involve mentoring junior staff, contributing to business development, supporting tender submissions and helping to improve environmental planning systems, processes and quality standards.
To be successful, you will have substantial experience in environmental planning, impact assessment, statutory approvals or a related field, together with a relevant tertiary qualification such as environmental science, planning, ecology, geography or natural resource management. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and approval frameworks is essential, as is demonstrated experience delivering complex projects in a consultancy, government or infrastructure environment. You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator, confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels and capable of balancing technical detail with commercial and project priorities. Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a changing environment. Professional accreditation or membership of a relevant industry body will be viewed favourably.
